2025 REPOSITORY

Notes on August

Summary

this month was significantly less active in comparison to july and i have the construction of this site to blame for it. it's quite good at taking up most of my available thinking space. due to this, i have a measely amount of new finds.

i celebrated a lot of birthdays this month, including my best friends and my dads. i got dad some stuff from his cart because he's been really into building watches lately and didn't have anything specific he wanted. i also got him a rhino beetle gachapon which was totally not because i wanted it too. i went out with different groups of friends and one meeting was unfortunately a meet up at the wake of the sister of said best friend who had a birthday this month.

the result of the constant rain is a very comfortably cool atmosphere that i know will disappear soon, so i'm reveling in the sweater weather until then. unfortunately, this also means the floods are pretty bad. over the weekend, there was a sudden and concerning level of downpour, where an equivalent of a weeks worth of rain was dumped on metro manila in one hour. the flood that occurred caused a standstill for the cars on the road, some cars even started to float from how high the water got.

everyone was already criticizing the nepo babies of the corrupt politicians this week and the added scandal of horrendous flooding due to terrible flood prevention and drainage management because of pocketed funds worsened the bashing (deserved tho). i live in an area that almost never floods, so when people found out even our area flooded, they were emphasizing that it really was that bad.

also, i ended up enrolling in japanese language classes with my childhood friend, which is fun bc we havent been classmates since third year high school. class starts in september and i suspect i'll be a little busier work-wise as well, so i'm glad i'll have a few things to keep me busy.

01. watched

Sorry, Baby (2025)
i saw someone say this was america's answer to phoebe waller bridge and laughed. awkward, emotional, lovely, and just very real.
Weapons (2025)
i thought people were exaggerating their enjoyment watching this but i get it. it's not like, a four star movie or anything, but it was quite fun and the pacing reminded me of Monster (2023)
The Book of Job: The Bible's Most UNFAIR Story?
hochelaga
fun because i never listen to homilies and hated all my religion classes growing up, this shit had me reeling in my seat omg

02. read

Paradise Logic
Sophie Kemp
such a unique read (and i'm still reading). it's weird, campy, and kooky and had me laughing going "wtf". the writing isn't the easiest to go through but it's very fun. i've been rotating between this and stoner so i don't die
Tantrums, toddlers and technology: Temperament, media emotion regulation, and problematic media use in early childhood
Coyne, Shawcroft, Gale, Gentile, Etherington, Homgren, Stockdale
study on technology usage in kids and how it affects their irritability, dependency on it, and ability to regulate their emotions

03. eaten

Moon Rabbit's Bunny Panacotta
the book club ordered this so we could take pics of the diva. it was way too frozen though, i'm sure we'd have all enjoyed it more had it been thawed for a little longer
Moon Rabbit's Efu Noodles
there's nothing particularly special about it but for some reason it's just done really well?
Pancit Canton at the Wake
i'm not a big pancit canton lover since it really depends on how you cook it but oh my god. my best friends cousin made some for the wake and it was the best i've ever had (pic from here bc i didn't get one of the actual pancit. me and my four friends shared it on a paper plate w three forks and determination)
Babaganoosh
my friend and i got nachos, curry, and this thin, almost smash-burger adjacent beef kebab + rice combo. it was all surprisingly light and doesn't leave you feeling shitty from how greasy it is or how full you are
Dilettante Peppermint Truffles
oh my god this is probably the best chocolate i've had this year
^-^
i can't actually say what it is bc it's not allowed where i live but my sleep has improved significantly

04. played

Uma Musume: Pretty Derby
i got my baby tachyon to three stars....... i don't know what i've done to displease the gacha gods but how do i only have TWO!!! three-star umas !!! like, pulled, not leveled up. it better NOT act like this when halloween rice shower comes out

i need to give a huge shout out to Chappell's The Subway because it was like the mental equivalent of chugging a Monster while i worked on this site in the first few weeks of August. i'm playing it as i'm typing this and i'm getting flashbacks to my eyes glued to the screen, my leg bouncing vigorously. i closed my eyes and i dreamt in code.
